Dungeon Irons

Dungeon Irons may have been a terrifying place to find yourself many centuries ago, but nowadays, kinky coupes have brought them into the bedroom.

The Origins of Dungeon Irons

While Dungen Irons date back to early Roman times, people may be surprised to find out that a variety of restraints that are used in BDSM today have derived from models conceived by the Romans. One of the earliest models ever discovered was cup lock shackles, of which a variant is still used to spice up the bedroom today. These were popularly used throughout medieval times but they began to decline in popularity by the time mass production made them more affordable. Handcuffs took their place in one sense since they were able to allow the captive to be transported. Once the captor was put into some sort of holding unit, restraints were no longer required in most cases. If they were, handcuffs, straitjackets, arm binders, or padded rooms would be used before Dungeon Irons would. In the case of the bedroom though, the possibilities open up and what was once torture can now be a pleasure.

Makes and Models

Simply binding the hands of your partner and securing them to the wall is a very crude and simplistic rendition of Dungeon Irons. Typically, you will find 5-piece sets for purchase, including one for each arm, one for each leg, and one for the neck. There are more elaborate and unique creations, that come in various styles and a multitude of colors. Also available are Omega shackles, C-shackles, wrist and ankle, wall-mounted, and floor-mounted, and more.  Even handcuffs are a form of restraint and often serve as a beginner level option, especially when compared to higher-end wall or floor mounting restraints, which are commonly known to be Dungen Irons.

How do They Work?

There are a few different types available out there, but one of the most popular types is the Omega-Shaped Shackle. For understanding how they work, we’ll use this type for the example. These particular shackles get their name from their shape. The Greek symbol for Omega. Using a pair of plyers or a small wrench the dominant partner will tighten the shackles, effectively trapping the subordinate. When the shackles become tightened, it becomes impossible for the restrained person to break free. If using quality shackles, they should be inescapable without the help of some sort of tool. To get the best fit, custom made sets can be found online, and they’re custom made according to the measurements and desires of the wearer.

Dungeon Iron Accessories

Most models come with their own locking mechanisms but some require the use of a separate lock altogether, like a combination lock or more commonly, a padlock. Chains, ropes, bars, and/or rods can be used to attach specific shackles to one another or onto the wall or floor brackets. These work well with a multitude of other accessories so get creative. Ball gags, spreader bars, ticklers, you name it. Once the locks are locked, anything goes.
