A Wartenberg wheel, also known as a Wartenberg neurowheel or Wartenberg pinwheel, was originally conceived as a medical device and is not to be confused with the clothing-pattern making tool, called a pounce wheel, that looks similar. The Wartenberg Wheel and was intended for neurological use and was invented by Belarus born inventor named Robert Wartenberg. Wartenberg conceived the handy little tool to test the skin sensitivity of a patient, by methodically rolling the tool over the surface of the skin. Wartenberg also first identified a neuropathy of the hand called the cheiralgia paresthetica caused by compression to the superficial branch of the radial nerve.
