Wrist and Ankle Restraints 101

Wrist and ankle restraints, also known as bondage cuffs, are restraints that were designed to increase excitement and stimulation in the bedroom by promoting sexual bondage situations. Very similar to handcuffs, these wrist and ankle restraints may lock onto the floor, ceiling, bed, or wall. These restraints can be fashioned from various materials like a chain, leather, rubber, or even fur, and can be fastened via a locking mechanism or Velcro, ensuring that the captor doesn’t get away. Some models available offer attachments like different types of material for the straps, nylon webbing for comfort, some may even come with a matching mouth or head restraint.

How Do They Work?

To use these, the restraints (or bondage cuffs) are normally secured to each arm and leg and then to another object, as forementioned, like a bed, wall, or floor, depending on the form of activity. It’s possible to use a set of cuffs to hogtie someone, and by then using another pair of restraints, a frog tie can be achieved for maximum foreplay achievability. These generally work very well in conjunction with other bondage equipment, like ball gags, gimp masks, and leg spreaders. Some bulk packages of these restraints may contain some add ons. Some popular choices among users are bondage collars handcuffs, legcuffs, thumb cuffs, harness gag, BDSM, and testicle cuffs. The possibilities are endless, feel free to experiment, just do it safely.

Another popular method or example of these restraints is fastening them to bedrails in a similar fashion to hospital restraints. This is probably the most common example that is available to the mainstream of this toy, referenced in countless TV shows and movies.

Restraints can be Fun, but Dangerous

Wrist and ankle restraints, especially more advanced versions, should be used cautiously by beginners. Users should be careful when using with a blindfold and from the standing position as loss of balance may occur causing injury. Aside from that warning, bondage cuffs were created to be much safer than conventional handcuffs. This should come as no surprise, since handcuffs as used to apprehend violently or erratically behaving criminals and with bondage cuffs, the primary design goals are for comfort and safety. Even though they are created to be safe and comfortable, they are still expected to hold someone captive. The upper restraints may even be used on their own or with a leash, allowing the Dominatrix to parade their captor around, or to lead them to the next stop on their erotic bedroom fun quest. After all, the whole purpose of sex toys is to have fun and experiment.

Read the Directions!

Ordinary bondage cuffs are traditionally designed to support a heavy load, and in such cases, certainly not for prolonged periods.  If you’re looking for something to be able to support the weight of another adult from the hanging position, like a sex swing, you’re going to want suspension cuffs instead. They are a specialized form of bondage cuff, specifically manufactured to bear heavier loads in the act of Suspension Bondage. No matter what type you use, or how you use it, it is still very possible for the misuse of bondage cuffs to cause serious injuries if not used responsibly.
